Graduate Certificate in Imam and Muslim Community Leadership
The Fairfax Institute, in cooperation with Hartford Seminary in Hartford, CT, offers a Graduate Certificate in Imam and Muslim Community Leadership (GCIMCL). The aim of this 24-credit certificate program is to offer structured education in the American context for Muslim leaders, Imams, and counselors. Students take courses in Islamic Theology and Spirituality, Islamic Ethics, Advanced Islamic Scripture, American Muslim Communities, Interfaith Encounter and Arts of Ministry. Students also take a course in Clinical Pastoral Education as well as a Reflection on Ministry Experience course.

Winter Student Program 2017

The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), and its instructional division, The Fairfax Institute, hold an annual Winter Student Program (WSP) in Islamic Studies during winter break. The WSP is designed for currently enrolled undergraduate students at universities and colleges in the US and Canada, regardless of their major or program of study. The program provides an intensive study of major topics in Islamic studies, including: History and Interpretations of the Qur'an, The Qur'anic Worldview, Sunnah and Its Relevance, History of Islamic Thought, Muslim History and Civilization, Islam in America, Fiqh (Jurisprudence) and Maqasid al-Shari'ah (Objectives of Islamic Law), Revival and Reform in Islam, and Contemporary Islamic Thought, among others. The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is a private, non-profit, academic, cultural and educational institution, concerned with general issues of Islamic thought and education. The Institute was established in the United States of America in 1981 (1401 AH). It is independent of local politics, party orientations and ideological bias.

The Fairfax Institute is a religious institution exempt from state regulation and oversight in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. 


Pursuant to 8 VAC 40-21-50 of the Virginia Administrative Code, The Fairfax Institute is exempt from regulations of the State Council for Higher Education for Virginia for a period of five years, beginning June 8, 2016, and ending June 8, 2021, as long as the institution's primary purpose remains to provide religious training or theological education.
